Business is all about negotiation!
Guest Post By Matthew Kwan
Do you realize how much negotiation do you do everyday? You may negotiate with your customers for the most favorable prices, order quantity, delivery time and condition. You may push your sub-ordinates and co-workers to deliver the jobs on time and with high quality that meet your expectation. You may try so hard to show your performance to your boss and managers in order to get a better pay rise or promotion in the next review cycle. All these show that doing business is all about negotiation!

You do not need to start your own company to be an entrepreneur. However, you need to be an entrepreneur to succeed in business. Entrepreneurship is an attitude, a mindset, a way of thinking, and something you need to develop. So, are you an entrepreneur?
Here are some questions you may ask yourself:
1. Do you enjoy solving problems and seeing the results at the end?
2. Do you enjoy hearing new ideas?
3. Do you enjoy building new business processes?
4. Do you enjoy learning how other organizations work?
5. Do you enjoy thinking win-win proposals?
6. Do you enjoy working with other (internal & external) parties?
7. Do you think negotiation is a way to achieve a win-win situation?
8. Do you think calculated risk is bearable?
9. Do you think performance improvement is mandatory?
10. Do you think an alternative route is an answer to a dead end?
If you mostly answer “YES” to the above questions, then the chances are that you already possess entrepreneurship qualities.

here is no need for me to elaborate on what mentor-ship means and what’s it about. I think most of us know it to be some form of coaching, hand-holding and sharing of experiences from someone who has been there and done that. The mentor – mentee relationship is special and most successful men and women will point out that if it hadn’t been for their mentors they wouldn’t be enjoying the fruits of their success. I think most people would think of the concept of mentor-ship as a no-brainer. Here you have an experienced person who is successful in particular aspect of his/ her personal or professional life, sharing with you their secret success sauce, why wouldn’t anyone take it, right? The ‘DNA’ of a Young Entrepreneur
I recently had the privilege to interview a young budding entrepreneur on behalf of City News, an exciting local news portal where I volunteer whenever I am given the opportunity to. The young entrepreneur was none other than Mr. Suhas Gopinath who has earned the unique distinction of being the world’s youngest CEO; he started his software company at age 14 and has since then become one of the most remarkable success stories of teenage entrepreneurship. He was invited here to Singapore as a guest at the recently concluded ‘Global Social innovators Forum ’09’.
